Interested in Cupping?

Cupping can be incorporated into a Massage Therapy treatment when appropriate for your needs and preferences. If you are interested in including cupping in your appointment, contact the clinic and let us know so your therapist can discuss the technique with you and determine how it may fit into your treatment.

What is cupping?

Cupping uses specially designed cups to create suction against the skin. The cups may remain in one position for a period of time or be moved across an area as part of the treatment.

The sensation is different from hands-on massage. Instead of applying downward pressure, the cups gently lift the skin and underlying tissue.

At Grice Massage Therapy, cupping may be used alongside other techniques rather than as a completely separate treatment.

Why cupping may be included

A therapist may suggest cupping when working with areas of muscle tension or when a client prefers the distinct sensation created by suction.

It may be combined with Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, movement, or other hands-on techniques depending on the treatment plan.

Cupping is not a detoxification treatment, and no technique can guarantee a particular outcome. Your therapist will explain why it is being recommended and discuss other available options.

What to expect

Cupping can leave temporary circular marks or discolouration on the skin. These marks are not the goal of treatment, and their appearance does not measure how successful a treatment was.

Tell your therapist about skin sensitivities, medications, health conditions, or previous reactions that may affect whether cupping is suitable for you.

Your therapist will explain the expected sensations, possible effects, and alternatives before obtaining your consent.
