Looking for a Different Approach?

If an area feels persistently tight or restricted, Myofascial Release may be one approach your therapist considers as part of your treatment. Contact the clinic to discuss what you are experiencing and find an appointment with a therapist who can determine an appropriate approach with you.

What is Myofascial Release?

Fascia is connective tissue found throughout the body and around muscles and other structures.

Myofascial Release is a broad term for hands-on techniques used to work with this tissue. Treatment may involve sustained pressure, gentle traction, movement, or slower techniques applied without lotion.

The experience may feel different from a traditional flowing massage. The therapist may remain in one area for longer while observing how the tissue and your movement respond.

Why clients choose this approach

Clients may seek Myofascial Release for:

  • areas of persistent tightness;

  • restricted or uncomfortable movement;

  • postural strain;

  • areas affected by scar tissue;

  • recurring muscle tension; or

  • a preference for slower, more focused treatment.

Myofascial techniques can be used on their own or incorporated into a broader Massage Therapy appointment.

What to expect

Your therapist will ask about the movements or areas that feel restricted and may assess how those areas move before treatment begins.

Because little or no lotion may be used, the therapist can apply slow pressure without sliding over the skin. The pressure does not necessarily need to be deep to be focused.

You can ask for changes to the pressure, positioning, or technique at any time.
