Prenatal Massage
Comfort-focused Massage Therapy adapted to the physical changes and positioning needs that can arise throughout pregnancy.
What is Prenatal Massage?
Prenatal Massage uses many of the same foundations as other Massage Therapy treatments while adapting the positioning, pressure, and techniques to pregnancy.
Treatment is commonly provided in a comfortable side-lying position with pillows and supports. Your therapist will work with you to find a position that feels secure and allows you to relax without unnecessary pressure on the abdomen.
Every pregnancy is different. Your therapist will ask about your stage of pregnancy, health history, current symptoms, and any recommendations provided by your healthcare team before developing the treatment plan.
Why clients book Prenatal Massage
Pregnancy can change posture, movement, sleep, and the way the body carries weight. Clients may seek Prenatal Massage when experiencing tension or discomfort in areas such as the:
-
lower back;
-
hips and pelvis;
-
shoulders and upper back;
-
legs and feet; or
-
hands and wrists.
Treatment may also provide an opportunity to rest and become more comfortable in a body that is changing quickly.
What to expect
Before treatment begins, your therapist will explain the proposed positioning and techniques. Pillows and bolsters may be used to support your abdomen, hips, legs, and upper body.
Pressure will be adjusted according to your comfort and the areas being treated. You can request changes to the positioning or treatment at any time.
Please tell your therapist about any symptoms, complications, changes in your pregnancy, or recommendations from your physician, midwife, or other healthcare provider. Contact your healthcare provider before booking when you have questions about whether Massage Therapy is appropriate for you.

Planning Your Prenatal Massage
When contacting the clinic, let us know that you are pregnant and interested in Prenatal Massage. This allows us to connect you with an appropriate therapist, discuss any questions or considerations, and make sure your treatment is planned with your comfort and changing needs in mind.
